Switzerland supports projects in Hungary in the following focus areas:

Regional development

Security, stability, and support for reforms
Regional development initiatives in peripheral or disadvantaged regions shall strengthen decentralised structures and enhance employment opportunities based on local potentials in North Hungary and Northern Great Plain with special emphasis on the counties of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hajdú-Bihar, and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg.  Projects should create synergies and address problems intregrating several sectors, like tourism, environment, small and medium size enterprise development etc. In addition, assistance will be provided to strengthen flood management in the Upper Tisza Region.

 Environment and infrastructure
The rehabilitation and modernisation of basic infrastructure and the improvement of the environment constitute the focus of this activity area. On the one hand, improved water supply systems as well as enhanced waste management on municipal level will be promoted. On the other hand, Switzerland will provide support for upgrading environmental monitoring systems, among others by supplying up-to-date environmental measuring equipment. In addition, nature protection measures as well as cross-border environmental initiatives will be funded.

Creative thinking Promotion of the private sector
In order to promote employment creation, the access to long-term financing for SMEs and the institutional business environment shall be improved. To this end, Switzerland will support venture capital or equity participation in local financial intermediaries. Additional funds will be provided to support sector-specific activities e.g. in the field of tourism.

Human development Human and social development
In order to strengthen health and social services, Switzerland will promote projects contributing to improved disease prevention, family health care and health promotion measures. Needs of vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and socially marginalised groups, primarily in the geographic focus regions, are particularly taken into account. Furthermore, in order to strengthen the scientific potential and applied research, Switzerland will grant scholarships, promote joint research projects and finance exchange programmes.

NGO

Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and
Twinning/Partnership Block Grants

Additional funds will be provided for initiatives of the civil society contribution and to create solid and sustainable relations between institutions, towns,
