Switzerland supports projects in Latvia in the following focus areas:
Security, stability, and support for reforms Switzerland will support local authorities in conducting transportation system analysis, promoting youth support initiatives, financing school exchange programmes and training courses as well as training of social youth workers. Another focus area is the modernisation of the judiciary.
Environment and infrastructure To improve the environment, to increase living standards and to promote sustainable economic development, hazardous waste sites will be rehabilitated and historically polluted sites will be remediated. Moreover, Switzerland will promote measures to enhance hazardous waste management.
Promotion of the private sector To improve the regulation of the financial sector, specific measures in the field of corporate sector financial reporting and auditing at the national level will be funded, thereby supporting the effective implementation and enforcement of the Acquis Communautaire of the European Union.
Human and social development In order to strengthen the scientific potential and to facilitate access to education and research programmes, Swiss funds will be provided for scholarship grants for advanced degree and post-graduation studies in Switzerland and for exchange programmes.
NGO Block Grant Block Grants are funds set up for promoting civil society's contribution to economic and social cohesion as important actors of development and participation, facilitating a cost-effective administration in programmes with many small projects.
